Vanessa Yanow is a queer artist from Tiohià:ke / Montreal. She works across diverse media, including flame worked glass, digital embroidery, collage, artifacts, photography, drawing, textiles and found objects. Yanow enriches her deeply imaginative and tactile artmaking practice with research whose diversity includes issues of female and queer representation in the history of art and craft, queer sexualities and gender expressions, microbiology, climate change, parasitology, and community care. Vanessa’s studio is at The Long Haul – A 10,000 square foot visual art workspace and gallery in Parc Extension that she co-founded in 2001. Since co-founding The Long Haul, she has mentored emerging artists, coordinated the collective, advocated for their group, curated exhibitions, all while producing several large bodies of work that have been exhibited Nationally and Internationally.
